Ramses II was a king of Egypt who reigned for 66 years from 1279 to 1213 BC. At the age of 14, Ramses was made crown prince by his father Seti I. He was known for his great military campaigns such as the Battle of Kadesh, against the Hittites, where the first peaceful treaty in history was concluded. One of his most famous projects is the Abu Simbel Temple, carved into a mountain in the far south of Egypt. Ramses II married many wives and had more than 100 children. His most famous wife was Nefertari, who was so highly regarded that a magnificent tomb was built for her in the Valley of the Queens. Ramses II died at the age of about 90 and was buried in the Valley of the Kings.
