Excursion to Mount Sinai and Saint Catherine's Monastery from Sharm el-Sheikh:
Around 10:30 p.m., we'll pick you up from your hotel in Sharm el-Sheikh to head for the central area of the Sinai Peninsula.
After a journey of approximately two and a half hours by bus, we will reach the mountainous area, where we will begin a night march up Mount Sinai. Armed with good comfortable shoes, we will climb the 750 steps that lead to the top. The effort will be worth it, since from this place we will contemplate the sunrise over the same place where Moses received the Tablets of the 10 Commandments, according to tradition.
Upon descending, replenished with the breakfast boxes that will be provided at the hotel, we will visit the Monastery of Santa Catalina del Sinai, the oldest in Christendom, at the foot of the mountain. This 6th-century World Heritage-listed monument is surrounded by walls. Inside we will visit the Basilica of the Transfiguration, a Christian-Orthodox temple with a great artistic heritage.
The monastery also houses a large collection of codices. In fact, it is the second most important in the world, only surpassed by the Vatican Archives. Already outside the temple, we will visit the burning bush in which Moses had the appearance of the angel of the Lord, according to the Bible. We will also know the well in which Moses met his wife.
After the visit to Santa Catalina, we will start our way back to Sharm el-Sheikh, where we will return around 2:00 p.m.
